Mia decided to take a bit of a break from gardening and invited her new friends over. “What’s new with you guys?” Mia looked around the table.
“Well, there’s this guy,” Summer started. “He’s actually my housemate and I think I might have a bit of a crush on him.”
“Ooh, juicy!” Mia smiled. “What’s he like?”
“He’s cute.. But my friend, Liberty also lives with us and she seems pretty into him. I don’t want to betray her or cause any problems, so I don’t know if I should go there.”
Alex stood up and walked over to the fire. “Of course.” She mumbled to herself.
“Have you talked to Liberty about how you feel?” Mia asked.
“Well.. not really. The thing is I’m not sure exactly how I feel. It’s complicated. And I don’t think he really feels the same way.”
“Here’s what you do..” Katrina jumped in. “You buy the hottest lingerie you can find and when he walks into his room, you surprise him by waiting for him on his bed. I’m telling you, he won’t be able to resist.”
“Katrina..” Mia rolled her eyes. “Very subtle.”
“Well, it works with Don.” She winked. “By the way, where did Alex go?”
Mia spots Alex sitting by herself, so the three of them go and join her. “So, what about you Alex?” Mia sat down. “Did you end up telling your crush how you feel?”
Alex blushed. “Err.. no, not yet. I didn’t really get the chance yesterday.”
“You should do it soon.” Summer sat next to her. “Don’t let the opportunity pass you by, or they might find someone else.”
Alex looked at Summer. “Yeah, you’re right.. Summer, there’s something I need to say..”
Mia held her breathe as something clicked.
“You have always been there for me. We have known each other such a long time and I have never felt this way about anyone else..” Alex took a deep breath. “Summer, I love you.”
Summer stared for a moment before moving closer to Alex. “It’s about time.” She smiled.
“What? I thought you were into Travis..” Alex looked at her, confused.
“I’m not sure how I feel about Travis. But it’s not illegal to like more than one person. And my feelings for Travis have never been as strong as my feelings for you.. Is that okay?”
Alex smiled. “Yeah, I think it is.”
Katrina rushed off to see Don. All this talk of feelings was making her queasy. She wasn’t into the whole lovey dovey stuff.
That was okay, though. Alex and Summer were off in their own little world and didn’t notice anyone else. It was as if it was just the two of them and everything else had disappeared.
Mia felt happy for them. She didn’t feel like she was responsible for bringing them together. The love was inside of them all along, they just needed to be honest with themselves.. And with each other.
Okay, maybe she did play a small part in this ‘great love’ story. After all, she did give Alex the advice and encouragement she needed to make it happen. Mia silently hoped that she would find that kind of love one day. And that it wouldn’t take as long as Alex and Summer’s to figure it out.
